A new essay, “Notes on Glamour, Edie, and Me,” appears in River Teeth (Issue 25.1, December 2023).
This piece of creative nonfiction is driven by my teenage fascination with Edie Sedgwick and the opening question: “Do we outgrow the obsessions of our youth, or do they inevitably survive and re-emerge in different forms?” The answer is an essay in 28 parts (28 was Edie’s age when she fatally overdosed in 1971) that explores my evolving view of Edie Sedgwick’s glamourous, tragic life— spanning from my youthful adoration of her, to my 20s spent in downtown Manhattan, to today as I raise a teenager of my own.
